Contact Your Members of Congress for Help

All over the world the aviation industry is being impacted by COVID-19. Governments are meeting about relief packages and it is important that we ensure aviation is considered in the relief.

Aid to the air carriers will help sustain the end-users and ASA supports any relief package to the air carriers. Air carrier recovery is essential. Our concern is the relief needs to make its way to the suppliers of aircraft parts and services. ASA wants specific relief directed to the supplier support community. There are well-over 2500 distributors worldwide, and 1800 companies just in the US. In the US alone, aircraft parts distribution employs over 25,000 people.

Although there is no guarantee that we will be successful, we do know that if we don’t ask for anything then we certainly won’t get any assistance. Asking for assistance now also opens the door to possible participation in future Congressional efforts (and we expect that the current efforts to support the American economy will not be the last such efforts by Congress). It is important to lay the groundwork now.

If you are in the US, then this is what you need to do to be heard:

  1. Write a letter to your representatives, both House and Senate. ASA has a sample letter or create your own.
  2. Email your representatives, both House and Senate. ASA has a sample email for your use. This is easy to do as there is an email function on the representative’s website.
  3. Call your representative. Unless you already have a relationship with your representative you probably won’t speak with them, but a staffer will speak with you and you need to state your case. They keep a record of callers. Callers are increasing important because it is so easy to send an email, but calling an office is considered to reflect extra effort by the constituent.

Not sure how to contact Congress, don’t worry click here for a guide.

We know you are busy but please do this today and please email Michele that you did it so ASA can track which congressional offices were contacted.
