Celebrating 20 Years! – FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 00-56

The FAA Advisory Circular (AC) 00-56 was published in 1996 as the government and industry endorsed position for monitoring distributors, and was titles the "Voluntary Industry Distributor Accreditation Program". The purpose of the Advisory Circular was to describe an accreditation system for civil aircraft parts distributors on the basis of voluntary industry and provide information useful for developing an accreditation program. The ASA assisted in writing AC 00-56 and later became the chair of the committee overseeing the industry project. ASA developed its own quality system standard in 1996, ASA-100, which is recognized in FAA AC 00-56. Today there are 276 ASA-100 accredited companies, and 665 company locations accredited using FAA AC 00-56.
