ASA Hires Walter Sam O’Connor

Over the last 4 four years, Sam has actively participated in ASA's auditing/inspection programs and served as a technical advisor to ASACB for our QMS auditing services. Many members have met Sam through ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9120 and ASA-100 auditing.  He joins ASA after working 25 years in regulatory compliance and quality management with a focus on aerospace. Sam brings extensive knowledge in managing, growing and improving organizations that operate as a Certification Body.

ASA Attends RMC Meeting in Charleston, SC

Sam O’Conner attended the meeting on behalf of ASA and provided the following overview: The OASIS database project (NEXTGEN) is well underway. The new version of OASIS will include the ability to generate reports using data inputed directly into OASIS. Users of this new feature will include Accreditation Bodies, Certified Organizations and Certification Bodies. This new version of OASIS will also include a NCR management database for corrective action tracking and closure that will be mandatory when it is released in October 2016. High level training for issues such as how to access, log on, and sign up will be created and rolled out before release of the new version. Detailed level training for CB Administrators and auditors is in the process of being defined. There were three new resolutions released that related to auditor training and authentication, certification of non-aviation, space and defense organizations and the approval for certification bodies to redact or black out audit information when a request is made to view the audit data. The certification body must however have the original data on file in its pre-redacted version. Dale Gordon is the new ANAB program manager the AS9100 series standard.  The DCMA is looking on how to share information directly with CB's relating to QMS process and procedural issues identified during their audits. They are not, at this point in time, going to share their audit findings specific to their audit efforts. Their objective is as follows; Objective 1.3: Modernize contractor oversight methods and practices to maximize effectiveness while reducing industry cost of compliance. Initiative 1.3.1: Transition oversight from activities of detection to prevention to reduce failures and rework, delivery delinquencies and in-plant presence based upon risk mitigation analysis of objective process and performance data.
