Celebrating 20 Years! – Advocacy
One of ASA’s first goals was to create a voice for aftermarket suppliers in the aerospace and aviation industry. This included providing government representation for our members. Within months of its inception in 1993, ASA members had the opportunity to take part in a two-day meeting and series of briefings on the approved parts issue and accreditation of airline suppliers with the FAA, in order to tackle the issue of how to monitor suppliers/distributors and protect the supply chain from counterfeit parts. One eventual output of this meeting, as well as others, was the current Unapproved Parts Notification system, which provides notification to the industry regarding the sale of unapproved parts.
Since then, ASA has continuously worked to protect and promote the aviation industry with a global focus on safety, ethics and standards. Some examples of ASA’s regulatory accomplishments include lobbying for, and being granted, a regulatory change giving distributors a right to export 8130-3 tags for airworthy parts; working with American, Canadian and European authorities to develop documentation requirements that are consistent and that facilitate trade and safety; working with the FAA to develop training programs, advisory guidance, inspection advice, and a distributor accreditation program which is now recognized by Chinese law; and actively advising EASA on supplier control issues, leading to reasonable standards for supplier oversight.
Unique URL’s on ASA Website for Members
ASA is now offering members the option of having a unique URL linked to their listing in the Membership Directory. For more information and to get your company’s unique URL, contact Dawn Carberry.
ASA is an Accredited Registrar for AS9100 and AS9120
ASA, using the trade name ASACB, is now accredited to conduct AS9100 and AS9120 audits. ASACB’s accreditation is through ANAB and allows ASACB to issue accredited certificates for AS9100 and AS9120 which, among many things, means that the audit results and certificates will be listed in the IAQG OASIS database. If you are interested in an AS9100, AS9120, ISO 9001 or ASA-100 audit, contact the group that knows the aerospace and distribution industry – ASA!
