ASA 2010 Conference
It was great to see so many Members at the ASA 2010 Annual Conference - thank you for attending.  The dates for the 2011 Conference will be announced soon.  Keep checking the website for up-to-date information.

ASA Awards 2010 Edward J. Glueckler Award to Mike Molli
Mike Molli of Technitrade, Inc. received the 2010 Edward J. Glueckler Award during ASA's 2010 Annual Conference.  A founding Director of ASA, he served on the Board from its inception in 1993 until 2009.  The award was presented to him on behalf of the Membership by ASA's founding President, Edward J. Glueckler.  Read the press release on this year's award here.

Board of Directors Election
Members may begin to submit their nominations for the ASA Board of Directors.  Four seats are currently up for election, those currently held by Mitch Weinberg (International Aircraft Associates), Brent Webb (Aircraft Inventory Management & Services), Richard Levin (A.J. Levin Co.) and Graham Mitchell (Aero Inventory UK).  Submit your nominations by e-mailing Michele Dickstein.  To be considered, nominees must be Regular Members of ASA.  Nominations will close after Thursday, July 22.  No new nominations will be considered after the closing date.

The election voting will be held July 26 through August 6.  A separate e-mail will be sent to all members when election voting is open.  Only Regular Members are eligible to vote in the election - Associate Members are not permitted to vote.

Each Board position has a term of two years.  The Board meets quarterly: a one-day meeting in the first quarter, a one-and-a-half-day meeting in the second quarter, a half-day meeting in the third quarter, and a one-and-a-half-day meeting in the fourth quarter.  Meetings are held at various locations, and each Director is responsible for all expenses associated with the Board meetings.  If you have any questions about the roles and responsibilities of a Director, please contact Michele Dickstein or any current Director.

Graham Mitchell Resigns from ASA Board of Directors
Graham Mitchell of Aero Inventory (UK) Ltd. resigned from the ASA Board of Directors last month.  Aero Inventory is in administration, and due to this, Mr. Mitchell unfortunately had to step down from the Board.  We thank him for his service on the Board of Directors as well as the Quality Assurance Committee.  Mr. Mitchell's seat is open for the next Board election.

Quality Assurance Committee News
The Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) met during the ASA 2010 Annual Conference and announced the re-election of Chris Anderson as Chairperson and the election of Tim Heckart as Vice Chairperson of the Committee.  Chris Anderson is the Director of Quality Assurance at MidAmerican Aerospace, Ltd. in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  Tim Heckart is the Quality Manager of Turbine Engine Consultants, Inc. (TECI) in Joplin, Missouri.  We thank them for their service on the QAC.

The next QAC meeting has been scheduled for November 5, 2010 in Dallas, Texas, sponsored by Aircraft Inventory Management & Services.  Information will be available on the website as soon as details are finalized.

Does Your Company Sell "Commercial Parts"?
There is a new regulation regarding commercial parts, and the FAA is working on guidance materials.  We are trying to identify members that sell commercial parts so we can better coordinate comments regarding the new rule and guidance.  If your company is involved in commercial parts sales, please e-mail Michele Dickstein to submit your comments.

Hazmat Training
The FAA has set an August 20, 2010 deadline for all repair stations to certify Hazmat training. There are many hidden hazards in aircraft parts, so Hazmat training is useful for any company handling aircraft parts, including distributors, air carriers and repair stations.  In addition, The US Department of Transportation (US DOT) requires that all individuals engaged in handling hazardous materials must be trained at least once every three (3) years.  Air Carriers are required to be trained annually and IATA requires training every two (2) years.  Update your certification by attending a Hazmat workshop - ASA Members receive a discount on registration!
